Leveling Up Our Colour Game: Turning Good Footage into Great Stories

28 Apr 2026

At IDOTYOU, we believe that great work starts with continuous growth. That’s why we actively invest in our people, creating opportunities for employees to upskill, explore new techniques, and deepen their craft.

Recently, several of our video team members attended a colour grading workshop designed to sharpen their visual storytelling and technical precision. The workshop is designed for video editors, directors, videographers, and even non-professional creatives who want to improve their colour grading skills. It combines interactive lessons with hands-on practice using industry-level materials, helping participants understand how colour is used in real production work.

Participants explore the fundamentals of colour work, from managing footage from different cameras to creating clean and consistent visuals. They also learn how to refine shots, build different moods and looks, and improve overall storytelling through colour.

The training is conducted using DaVinci Resolve, the industry-standard software for editing, colour correction, visual effects, and post-production work.

It is led by Danny, a professional colourist at Visionary Colour and a certified DaVinci Resolve Certified Trainer since 2023, who shares practical insights from his experience working on commercial and film projects.

Following the session, our team shares their key takeaways and reflections from the workshop, highlighting what they’ve learned and how they plan to apply these new skills in future projects.

“The 3 day colour grading course was very intensive and fulfilling. My brain was overloaded but in a good way.

I have not been in a classroom for quite a while, so it took me a bit of time to get back into learning mode. I came in with zero experience using DaVinci Resolve, so I was a bit worried at first. But Danny made everything easy to follow, and focused on what actually matters, no extra fluff, just the important stuff that we can really use at work.

I also like that he did not just show us how to use the software, but explained the why behind it. It makes a big difference, and I feel like as long as I keep practising and exploring, what I learned from this course can really go a long way.

I am really grateful to the company for giving me this opportunity, and I would definitely recommend this course to video editors or anyone who is interested in colour grading.”

— Yao, Art Director

“Understanding colour and the tools’ functionality on a deeper level definitely helps with solving/creating the final look easier. ”

— Ting, Director of Photography

“Really appreciate joining Danny’s course. I really like how he explains things, very detailed and easy to follow, which makes it much easier to pick up.
Before joining his class, I had been doing colour grading the wrong way. Learning how to build a proper base, match shots, fix colours, and create different moods the correct way has really helped me improve a lot.

Overall, it’s been a very valuable course, and I feel much more confident in my colour grading workflow now. Definitely worth it.”

— Ash, Junior Art Director

“I learnt a lot, especially about colour theory, how different tones, contrast, and colour balance can shape emotion, guide attention, and tell a stronger story. Excited to apply these new skills in future projects.”

— Max, Art Director

“I’ve always had a huge interest in how colour works in communication. To me, colour isn’t just about making visuals look appealing, it plays a powerful role in shaping mood, perception, and the message we want to deliver. I genuinely enjoy playing with colours, so having the opportunity to attend this colour grading course allowed me to deepen that understanding and explore colour in a more intentional and refined way.

I’m really grateful that the company believes in investing in our growth. Continuous learning allows us to push our work further and elevate the quality we deliver. It’s one of the ways we ensure that our creative output continues to grow and stay ahead.”

— Shi Ying, Head of Creative

This workshop reflects our ongoing commitment to developing our team and investing in meaningful learning opportunities. By continuously upskilling our people, we aim to strengthen both individual capabilities and the overall quality of our creative output. We look forward to seeing these learnings translated into future projects that push our work even further.
