META SERIES & SOUND

IDOTYOU REimagines the Sitcom of the Century
Video production Comedy

IDOTYOU recently had the opportunity to participate in Meta's Sound & Series workshop, an exclusive event that brought together marketers and creative agencies to explore the potential of short-form content in today's digital landscape.

Our involvement centred around demonstrating innovative techniques for creating engaging Reels drama series, showcasing effective product placements, and sharing key insights on short-form storytelling for brands. At IDOTYOU, we were thrilled to contribute to this dialogue with a live demonstration of shooting a Reels drama series, bringing our expertise to the forefront.

For this workshop, we developed the concept of KAWAN, a parody of the iconic TV show FRIENDS. The goal was to evoke warm feelings of nostalgia while illustrating how brands can create impactful and memorable content through short drama series. Our big idea was encapsulated in the tagline, “Let's bring back the nostalgia.”

KAWAN, showcased a talented cast that revitalised the beloved characters from the iconic TV show FRIENDS. Natalie Chai lights up the screen as Phoebe with her vibrant energy, while Damien Zachary Fernandez captivates audiences with his charismatic portrayal of Mike.

THE SERIES SYNOPSIS

In the 3-episode mini-series, KAWAN, set in 'Bolehland,' Phoebe's plan to find a fake boyfriend for a party leads to a hilarious encounter in Metamate Cafe?. Faced with choosing between two Mikes based on their musical talents, Phoebe picks Mike B over Mike A. However, their relationship faces a challenge when Mike admits he cannot handle spicy food like her favourite dish, Nasi Lemak. Despite this, Mike proves his affection for Phoebe by eating the spicy dish in front of everyone. The two eventually reconcile and share a tender moment together, highlighting their new beginning.

BRINGING KAWAN TO LIFE

The production of KAWAN was an intensive yet exhilarating journey, beginning on May 27th with a quick rehearsal and the shooting of the 3 episodes on a pre-built set.

In the next two days, our team dove into an editing spree, showcasing our ability to produce quality content within a limited timeframe. The 3rd day marked a pivotal day with a live shoot in front of an audience of brand marketers. This interactive session aimed to involve the audience by incorporating them into the set as customers and engaging them in the live production process. We demonstrated our live shooting techniques and rapid editing capabilities, culminating in the presentation of the final episode.

In addition to the live shoot, we showcased some of our previous works, including Kau Sundaeku, RUGI TAU, Love at McD, and The Best Deals. The event concluded with a Q&A session where our CEO, Dorothy Fong, shared her insights on writing and producing a series from scratch, offering valuable advice and answering questions from the audience.

In summary, our participation in Meta's Sound & Series workshop provided a platform to showcase IDOTYOU's proficiency in crafting compelling narratives and fostering brand engagement, as well as putting ourselves on the radars of future and potential clients.
